Hamsters are Amazing!
By Adler P.
I love hamsters. I like how hamsters are cute and soft. They are fun
and have little feet. Some hamsters also have short tails and long
whiskers. Here are some amazing facts about hamsters that I have
learned. Hamsters like to be most active during the evening. Did you
know that hamsters are amazing acrobats and climbers? Also, hamsters
can stuff their cheeks until they are 3 times their normal size. Make sure
to be careful if you let your hamster out of its cage. You must keep an eye
on your hamster because they tend to like to explore. If this happens, it
may be hard to find your hamster again. I think that hamsters are the
best pets ever because mine always makes me happy when I feel down
and it might make you feel happy too!

Teacup Yorkie
By Marissa P.
I would like to tell you about my favorite animal
the Teacup Yorkie. It's not a specific type of breed
it's just a small Yorkie. Regular Yorkies weigh
between 4 and 7 pounds. Teacup Yorkies weigh
between 2 and 4 pounds. It gets its name because
when they are puppies they can actually fit into a
teacup. Teacup Yorkie's full grown still look like they
are puppies because they are so small. Yorkies are
very energetic, but also very lovable and loyal dogs.

Persian Tabby Cats
By: Maya P.
Tabby cats are not a breed of a cat but rather a
color pattern of a cat. Most often stripes, but
sometimes stripes and whorls, or even spots and
stripes. The tabby cat usually will have an "M"
marking on its face above its eyes. The tabby pattern
is so popular it is found in many pedigreed cats today.
The Mackerel stripped is by far the most popular, so
much that people think it should be the "classic" tabby
pattern. Other patterns are the spotted tabby and the
agouti tabby. The Classic Persian Tabby cat is my
favorite animal.

The Penguin Adventure
By: Lily S.
Did you know penguins live in places other than Antarctica? They live
all over the bottom half of the world! For example, penguins have
homes on the coasts of South America, Africa & Australia.
There are 17 different species of penguins, and none are able to fly.
But, they are super swimmers! They spend up to 75% of the time
underwater. They are only found in salt water, and penguins have
special glands that allow them to drink salt water.
Penguins like to eat sea food. They love fish, squid & krill. But,
penguins have predators that find them tasty, such as leopard seals, the
Australian sea eagle, snakes, lizards, foxes, ferrets & rats.
Parent penguins know their babies by the sound of their voice. After
the chicks hatch, they start “singing.” When the parents go out to find
dinner, the chicks huddle together to stay warm. When they return,
they are able to locate their chick by the sound of their voice.

Cheetahs
By: Braydon R.
Zing! Zang! Zoom! Wow!! That's one fast cat!
The cheetah is the fastest land animal. It can go
from zero to sixty in three seconds! Cheetahs live
in open grasslands in Africa and the Middle East.
Cheetahs eat small animals such as hares,
impalas, and birds. They only need to drink every
three to four days. Cheetahs have three to five
cubs in each litter. Cubs stay with their mother
until two years old. Cheetahs are my favorite wild
cat.

Fun Facts About Hedgehogs As Pets
By: Caleb
Hedgehogs are interesting creatures that you can have as a pet.
What makes them interesting is that they eat poison plants then they lick
themselves to keep off predators like: badgers, foxes, owls, and cats, but if
their in the house you shouldn't worry about that.
Hedgehogs also ball up to protect themselves from falls and predators. They
can swim, climb well, and run faster than a walking child. The size of hedgehogs
can be 14-39 oz. and they can be as long as 5-14 in. Hedgehogs eat small eggs,
snakes, lizards, mice, so the hedgehog's food is easily to get and is not
expensive.
They are fun to watch, quiet, not aggressive, and not hard to care for. They
are clean and have very little stinky smell. I think that these fun facts will help
you if your looking for a pet hedgehog.

All About the Hippopotamus
By: Charles T.
Hippos are huge. They are almost extinct because they are
only 150,000 left on Earth. They live mainly in sub tropical Africa.
They eat mainly plants. Grass on land at night, and water plants in
the river during the day. They are very large and can run fast.
They have 4 legs and are 12-15 feet long. Their skin is very thick
and in many folds. Colors range from brown and gray. They are
the third largest mammal on Earth and is a cousin of the whale.
Predators are lions, crocodiles, and humans. They are killed for
their meat, and canine teeth. Hippopotamus have live births. This
large mammal does not have sweat glands, so they cool off in
rivers and lakes. Hippo means "River Horse". Although
hippopotamus's are dangerous, I hope to see one in the future.

About Lions
By~Darion W.
Lions are known to live in Africa, and in the mountains. The
female lion always hunt for food for her family. The male lion
stays behind in the den to protect his family.
Lions sleep 16-20 hours a day and are the laziest of the big
cats. The oldest living lion was known to be 29 years old, and
nearly 700 pounds, and 11 feet long.
Lions will fight animals that are twice as big as them, they
can kill animals that can weight about 1,000 pounds.
I think lions are cool, the female lion is the coolest she
teaches her cub how to hunt.

Tigers Are Awesome
By: Iyla N.
Tigers are awesome they are the largest cats in the world! Tigers have red
orange fur with dark black stripes and weigh 720 pounds. They are 6 feet long.
Tigers live in India and Asia in grassland. Tigers eat 12 pounds of meat during a
meal . Tigers are near the top of the food chain and don’t have many predators
but sometimes Buffalo will fight with them and kill them. Tiger babies are called
cubs. Tiger moms carry babies in their tummies for 3 months and can have 3 or 4
at a time. Tigers live about 20 years. Tigers are awesome, but they are
endangered so we have to save them.
I used www.kids.nationalgeographic.com and www.tigers.org for research. And my
dictionary.

Elephants
By Isabel P.
Elephants are amazing creatures! African Elephants are
the largest land animals on earth, they can grow up to 13
ft and weigh 15,000 lb. Elephants are strong. Elephants
are herbivorous and they are mammals. They have long
ears that help them radiate heat to help them keep cool.
Elephants like to be near water where they can shower by
sucking water into their trunk and spray it all over
themselves. The female Elephants live in groups. Their
leader is called a matriarch. Elephant trunk is a long nose
that use for smelling, breathing, trumpeting and drinking
and also for grabbing small items. Elephants are strong
and amazing living creatures!

"African Elephants"
By: Karter P.
There are many fascinating animals in the world, one of my favorites is
the gigantic African elephant. They live in the African grasslands and open
woodlands. You can also see them in zoos and at a circus. The African
elephant has a humongous appetite for grass, leaves, and bark from
bushes and trees. They can actually eat up to 300 pounds of food a day.
That would explain how they can weigh up to 6.6 tons and be up to 10 feet
tall!
An African elephant calf weighs about 205 pounds at birth and will suck
his trunk, much like a baby human will suck its thumb. The giant ears
they have are used to hear up to two and half miles away! The long trunk
is about 7 feet and helps them gulp about 2 gallons of water at one time!
African elephants have giant tusks that are actually teeth. These are the
reason why humans hunt them, for their tusks. These are the interesting
facts I learned about African elephants and wanted to share with you!

Scary Colossal Squid
By: Samuel M.
Have you ever seen something so big that it made your eyes pop out?
That is how it feels to see a colossal squid! That's because a single tentacle is
2 to 2.25 meters long. Colossal squid eat toothfish. How do we know this?
Scientists have never found a whole colossal squid. They have found body
parts such as the stomach, and when they open it up they found remains of
a toothfish inside. Toothfish live in the Antarctic ocean, so they believe
colossal squid live there also. We know their predators are primarily sperm
whales, wandering albatross, and sleeper sharks. We have found the
remains of colossal squid in those animals too, like tentacles in a sperm
whale's belly. They belong to the cephalopod family, which means they lay
eggs. The babies are 8 millimeters long, which is small for a seriously huge
sea creature. The arms come with a combination of hooks and suckers.
Have your eyes popped out yet? If you were a colossal squid they would be
the size of a large pizza!

Did You Know, There Are About Thirty Kinds Of Rabbits?
By: Faris M.
However, they've just one blind spot right in front of their
nose. Rabbits produce three to four times each year. This is
because, only fifteen percent of baby rabbits make it their
first birthday. So, to ensure the population grows, rabbits
have more babies.
Many people think that a baby rabbit is called a Bunny.
This is actually just an affectionate nickname for rabbits.
Baby rabbits are called kitten, or kit.
Rabbits are popular in mythology and culture. Many
people believe carrying a rabbit's foot will bring them good
luck. I don't know about that, I just like having them as a
pet!

Sharks, They’re Not So Different After All
By: Jordan R.
Although sharks may seem scary at first glance, they
really aren’t that threatening. Like most land animals,
sharks can vary in sizes and colors, just like any breed of
cat or dog. They may be considered the top predators of
the ocean, but here on the land, we have many top
predators like, bears, lions and tigers. None of these,
including sharks, attack unless they feel threatened
themselves or they feel that they’re babies are in danger.
Baby sharks are called pups, like baby wolves or dogs, and
sharks can have one to one hundred born at a time. So in
conclusion, you should never judge something only by how
it looks.

Planet Silverback
By: Rowan W.
I love the Silverback Gorilla so much because I think
we have a lot in common. They only eat plants, fruits;
those are my favorite things to eat also. They love to
climb and wander and explore, I love to do the same
things. They are a little bit shy and love to stay together
as a family. I am the same way. My family is the
coolest! I also learned that these animals are close to
being gone. I hope that never happens. I would love to
help save them. These are only some of the reasons I
love the Silverback Gorilla!

All About Kangaroos, Oh YA!!!!!!
By: Aubrey R.
In Eastern Australia kangaroos, the size of my
dad, are jumping on the grassland. They can
weigh up to 200 pounds and be over 6 feet tall!
Even though they’re 200 pounds, they can jump
30 feet at a time and go 30 miles per hour!
Kangaroos get very big, but when they’re born
they are only 1 inch long and have to stay in their
mother’s pouch. Kangaroos are pretty cool.

What in the World?
By: Gabe D.
Have you ever wondered what in the world is a meerkat? Is a
meerkat part cat, like the domesticated felines we have at
home? Actually, meerkats are not cats at all, baby meerkats are
called pups. Pup are born blind and depend greatly on their
family or survival. Each member of the family has a job to do
some are teachers, guards, hunters and even babysitters.
Meerkats live in hot climates in deserts in tunnels called
burrows. The favorite foods of meerkats include scorpions,
beetles, grubs and lizards. Even though meerkats are good
hunters many animals hunt them too such as hawks, snakes and
wolves. Meerkats are interesting animals that have nothing to do
with cats at all.

Giraffes!
By: Jazlyn W.
Would you like to learn about the tallest animal in
the world. Read this review to learn about giraffes.
You might find a fact or two. Giraffes are 14-19 feet
tall, brown, and cream, spotted, and have horns.
Giraffes have a unique color tongue, purple. Their
predators are lions. Baby giraffes are called calves
and are about 6 feet tall. Grassland is where they live.
Giraffes munch on leaves and bushes throughout the
day. They are mammals who are fun to watch and
learn about.

Dogs
By: Lavaughn
I love dogs. Dogs have big ears. Dogs have
small arms.

Dumbo Octopus
By: Sam F.
I researched the Dumbo Octopus because I think they are very neat! I
already knew quite a bit about them, as they are my favorite sea animal. A lot
of people do not know they exist. They are octopus that live in the ocean and
measure to be about 8 inches in length. They usually stay near the bottom of
the ocean floor. Dumbo octopus have soft bodies with 8 arms, just like a
regular octopus. The arms though are connected with thin flaps of skin. It kind
of makes it look like a spider web. On top of their heads, they have ear-like
fins that help them swim. Dumbo octopus eat crustacean and worms that
swim on the bottom of the sea floor. I think the best thing about Dumbo
octopi are the colors! They can have bodies that are either red, green or
orange! I really like the green ones. Unlike other octopus, Dumbos do not have
ink sacs. Instead they squirt water through their funnel to escape quickly from
predators. The Dumbo octopus only lives between 3 and 5 years. They do not
have a long lifespan. I hope one day I can visit the ocean and get a peek at
these awesome sea creatures!

The Himalayan Snow Leopard
By: Eliana B.
I'm going to tell you about the amazing snow
leopard. High above in the cold, snowy Himalayan
mountains is where snow leopards live. They feast on
blue sheep, small rodents, and Himalayan tahr. Their
fluffy white and gray coats keep them warm in the
snow. Humans have hunted them for their beautiful fur
so much that they have become very rare. One day I
want to hike a mountain and see a snow leopard in the
wild. Don't you?

Ocelots
By: William W.
Ocelots are a type of nocturnal cat that lives in
forested areas and is an endangered species in parts of the
world. It lives on small animals in the areas that it lives.
The Ocelot sleeps during the day in the shade and
hunts at night. It hunts for small animals like rats, mice,
frogs, and birds. It does not eat plants or berries.
The Ocelot lives in Argentina and parts of the
United States. It is endangered in Arizona and in Texas.
Being endangered means that there are only a small
number of them left and we have to protect them.
The Ocelot is part of the leopard family of cats. I
think it is very interesting that they hunt at night and are
just meat eaters.

T-Rex The King Of The Dinosaurs
By: Zachary S.
The T-Rex was the best predator of it's time. T-
Rexs were 40 feet long and 15 feet tall. They had
nine inch long teeth. This carnivore could eat 500
pounds of meat in one bite! T-Rex had no
predators. They were reptiles. So they lay eggs
when they became adults. They lived in western
North America where it was hot and wet. T-Rexs
were so cool I wish that they were still around
today.

A Camel's Hump
By: Kendra K.
Why do you think a camel has a hump? A
lot of people think it is to store water,
but it is not true. The hump is made of
mostly fat and provides energy for camel.
When the camel is starving the hump
shrinks it may even slip off to the side. But
after the camel eats, drinks, and rests, the
hump becomes firm again and the camel is
not starving anymore.
