This is a book about my experiences on my first studyabroad in Costa Rica, my worries, my experiences at
some of the places we visited, and my overall new sense
of understanding of a new country that is not very
different compared to Aggieland.

As my first time traveling from the United States it was very
nerve wrecking for me because I kept thinking of all the
things that could go wrong such as loosing my Passport,
having money stolen, offending someone, and even
forgetting to pack or bring everything back. The furthest I
had ever been before was to California which I believed was
far. This was also my first time traveling over a large amount
of water and this truly scared me since there have been
numerous movies about bad things happening in these
instances.

However, once we arrived, all of my fears disappeared. I
decided to let go and enjoy the ride. of course I always
held safety in my mind. But I also decided this would be
the point in which i would let go and really get out of my
comfort zone getting to know others and while
participating in the planned events.

OrphanageBeing able to visit the orphanage was a one time
opportunity for me. I had never been to a orphanage at
all before, to go here and interact with children, it was
amazing. The children had tons of energy and were full
of sass. Language was bit of a barrier, but it didn't stop
us from having fun. Although we didn't get to take many
pictures of the children due to privacy, we were bale to
take pictures of the place and the images of the children
will always live in my mind.

We spent the first two nights in the Arenal area which had
a beautiful view of the Volcano. We also took a hiking trip
at a hanging bridges park. It was scary due to the fragile
foundation of the bridges, but the view was breathtaking
as it gave you a beautiful overlook of the wildlife and
green scenery.

Hot SpringsHere at the hot springs, I was able to enjoy a water park
from the natural hot springs available to the public. I was
able to enjoy a pool of hot water from the springs as well
as numerous different water slides. It was amazing as I
got out of my comfort zone with the water and had fun
with my classmates.

KayakingThis day we were given the opportunity to kayak across
Lake Arenal. It was amazing as the water was cool and
a beautiful teal. It was alike no other experience I ever
had. I got to get out of my comfort zone when it came
to water for a bit. It was my first time being in a big
body of water other than the pool and although I did not
get out of the kayak, it was nice to take that first step
and kayak out there. We were then driven to the other
side of the island on the boat and got to see the scenery
better.

Sky TrekOne of my greatest fears is being up high with nothing
underneath me. As my first time ever zip-lining, my
biggest fear was the safety. When we arrived on site, it
was overwhelming the rules that were in place and I
was nervous that I would mess up somehow and get
stuck in the middle of the line. However, this did not
occur. I loved every bit of it and after the first line, I
wanted to go first for every other one thereafter.
Although it rained, the scenery and feeling was still
amazing and I conquered a fear of heights this day.

Tree PlantingHere at this farm we learned about the different plans
they grew such as sugar cane and coffee beans. We
were able to taste cure sugar cane and try an all time
favorite of agua de dulce(sweet water). We were also
given the opportunity to contribute to this farm by
planting our own trees here. It was very easy and
worthwhile to add to the biodiversity of Costa Rica
through one simple task.
