Hello! My name is Aadhya and I am five years old. I live with my mommy, my daddy, my older sister Saanvi, and my oldest brother Advik.
My mommy and my daddy moved us from India to the United States when I was still a baby.

I am in preschool and I have two best friends name Sarah and Nessa. We go to the same school and we always play with each other during free time.

“Authoritarian parenting “attempts to shape, control, and evaluate the behavior and attitudes of the child in accordance with a set standard of conduct… any deviations will result in “forceful measures to curb self-will” (Baumrind, 1968)
Me, my brother and my sister are not allowed to play with the neighborhood kids, attend any fun activities or have any play dates. You see, I came from a strict family and both my mommy and daddy only want what is best for us.

Mommy and daddy only want what is best for me, Sanvi and Advik. So every after school, we do our daily chores

After doing our chores, we do our homework. We all read during our free time and we do not really watch a lot of television (unless it is educational). Daddy is always working, so mommy takes care of us when we are at home.
"Indian parenting imbibes the qualities of respect, cleanliness, integrity, reading and writing, self-confidence, faith and beliefs in the children, making them grounded and much more independent. As parents, it becomes our responsibility to set examples for our children and imbibe the values of our culture in them” (Being The Parent, n.d).

At preschool Sarah who is one of my best friend, was having a birthday party on Saturday and she was inviting me to go.
It will be fun

I was so excited that she was inviting me to her birthday party, but I don’t think mommy and daddy would let me go.

I told Sarah thank you for inviting me, but I don’t think I can go. Sarah asked me why and I told her that me, my sister and my brother are not allowed to attend any fun activities.
