Dedicated to Carlie

A 13 year old girl, Lyla, is flying from Chicago to Wyoming to visit her Grandma; a place where NOBODY else lives. Lyla plays soccer and her coach said she is fast, fierce and the strongest on her team. When she gets there, Lyla and her Grandma bake cookies, feed her fish in the pond next to the big oak tree, play cards, and garden together. Hours later, Lyla read a chapter in her book after she was ready for bed. Moments later, she put her book down, turned of her light, and went to bed.

She woke up with the bright light shining in her eyes and hearing little kids laughing outside her window. She went to her Grandma’s room, although she was not there. She runs downstairs to the kitchen yelling, “Grandma, Grandma, Grandma!” Then she found a note lying on the counter.
It read:
I have gone to the store, be back later Eat some breakfast and get ready for the day
Love you!
-Grandma
Lyla put the note back onto the counter. She grabbed some waffles out of the freezer, then Lyla melted peanut butter and nutella, next she drizzled the peanut butter and nutella on top of the waffles and said, “Yum, my favorite!" She went upstairs to get ready for the day. After that, she went to water the flowers that they planted the day before then and saw houses everywhere. Moments later, she dropped the watering can and ran over to the house next door with the sun shining bright.

Lyla asked, “How long have you lived here?” The woman replied, “22 years!” “OK” Lyla said backing away slowly from the yellow house that smelled like flowers. As she was walking back to her Grandma’s house, she saw her green convertible in the driveway. She cut through the green grass and went inside looking forward to talking to her Grandma. Although she was not there. She looked all around but had no luck finding her. She went outside and saw her talking to the neighbors.

Lyla walked over and Grandma said, “Hey!! What’s up?” “Nothing much” Lyla replied. “Carla wants to know if you want to babysit while she goes to the store.” “I would love that,”said Lyla,”What time will you be back?” “Around 6:00 pm, Melanie and Sarah already ate lunch. That should be it!!” Hours later, she went to her grandma’s house. Lyla and her Grandma ate grilled cheese and pickles for dinner.
2 AM, Lyla heard something on the window, like nails on a chalk board. Lyla slowly got out of bed and walked over to the window with her brown curls bouncing from the day before. She pulled back the curtain slowly. She saw a bloody hand print on the window. She fell back screaming remarkably loud. Lyla ran to her grandma’s room but she was lying on the floor. She realized that her grandma was dead. The window was open and a zombie started to crawl through it. She went to run out the door but it slammed before she could get to it.

She remembered that her grandma always had a gun under her bed, though she did not know why. She saw it only had 49 bullets. Lyla stepped over her grandma and went to the window and shot 11 zombies with only 38 bullets remaining. She jumped out the window and ran to Carla’s house. She kicked down the door ready to shoot anything coming her way. Then she remembered seeing a gun in a case in the kitchen. When she got in the kitchen she broke the glass and found 20; giving her 58 bullets. Then as she exited the house zombies started to come down the stairs.
With the gun still in her hand, she shoots all 6 zombies leaving her with only 52 bullets. Lyla ran to the house next to Carla’s house. “This house needs some color.” Lyla said to herself as she looked at the gray house. She opens the door and there was spider webs everywhere. She walked slightly slowly through the house knocking down spider webs every 20 seconds. She heard a noise and she thought it was really close by but then she realized it was her stomach. “I WANT FOOD!!” Lyla screamed on the top of her lungs 4 more times. She looked around for the kitchen and found it with no food or water. Moments later, Lyla went outside and saw zombies everywhere. Lyla thought I need to find shelter where no zombies can go.

Lyla saw she needed to tie her shoe. She bent down by the side of a bright blue house and a pear tree. What she did not know is that there was a zombie in the window above her. The zombie jumped out of the of the window as soon as Lyla bent down to tie her shoe. The zombie would have landed right on her if she did not have had to tie her shoe. As soon as she saw the zombie she immediately shot it. Meanwhile, Lyla had an idea to go to Utah so she can fly back to her house. She thought that if she can find electric scooter or a dirt bike she can make it to Utah. So then she starts to look for a dirt bike. Lyla found a 2 story brown house, with blood dripping from a wide open garage filled with bikes and scooters.
