Juliette Gordon Low
By: Milena Triana

Juliette was born on October 31, 1860 in the old town of
Savannah, Georgia. Her name was Juliette Magill Kinzie
Gordon, but everyone just called her Daisy. She has done
many great things.
She grew
up to be a strong,
independent, and
outgoing woman
who is now
known as the
founder of
Girl Scouts.

Daisy was born during the Civil war. Her mother was
from the North and her father was from the South.
Her dad was fighting in the war most of the time and
she never saw him. They weren’t very
wealthy. When the
Yankees took over
Savannah there
was a lot of danger
so Daisy and her
sisters and mother
went north to Chicago
to with her grandparents.

Daisy lived a better life there. Then when
Savannah was safe they returned. They had
lost a lot of their cotton business and the city
and houses were ruined.
They still had some
cotton up north.
Slowly their house
started to look like
before, and her dads
business slowly grew.

Some years passed and Daisy was sent to a boarding
school in Virginia. There she was taught to be a lady.
Daisy really missed her parents but she didn't complain.
At the school they were only
allowed to speak French or
German. Daisies sister
passed away some years
later and her mother was
very sad. Daisy had to then go
to finishing school in New York.

After finishing school she traveled a lot, on one trip to
England she met a man named William Low, a very
wealthy man. She fell in love with him. One day she
woke up with a headache. She went
to the doctor and they told
Daisy she had lost her hearing
in one ear. Then a few years l
ater Daisy married Willie. Daisy
got an ear infection in the other
ear and could barely hear out of
that ear. She found out that she
couldn't have children. Willie got
sick and soon died.

After Willie had died Daisy traveled a lot. On one trip
she met a man that was the founder of the boy scouts.
So near Scotland she started her
own troop they were called the
Girl Guides. Soon there were
many troops all over England.
She wanted to spread the
Girl Guides to America.

There she started a new troop, they learned new helpful
skills. She decided to change Girl Guides to Girl Scouts.
Scouts spread fast in America, soon almost every girl
wanted to join. In June of 1913 the National office for
Girl Scouts opened in Washington DC. The Girl Scouts
helped and still help people all over.

Daisy passed away on January 17, 1927. She was buried
in her Girl Scouts uniform.
Daisy was a brave woman
who started something
wonderful to help girls all
over the world. Girl Scouts
still help people in need.
Many people today still
remember Daisy.
