Hi my name is Peach! I'm
going to take you on a
journey of the digestive
system. This is Anne's
mouth! Lets go!

Wow look at Anne's white
teeth! Those will help her
chew the food! In the
mouth there is saliva that
helps break down starch.
The saliva comes from the
salivary glands, they
make saliva. In the mouth
there is also a tongue and
that works with the saliva
to make the food into a
ball! Amylase is an
enzyme that helps break
down starch into sugar!
In the most of the
mechanical digestion
happens.

Here we are in the esophagus, this is a
muscular tube that connects the throat to
the stomach.Farther down you can see
the epiglottis, it is a flap that covers the
windpipe when swallowing food. When
the epiglottis is open the air goes into the
trachea which is the main system of air
tubes in which air passes. Come on lets
move on!!

Here we are in the stomach, it is a sack that stores and
helps digest food. The gray puddles are called bile, it is
a liquid that is produced by the liver that helps digest
fat. Bile is stored in the gallbladder. Lipase also helps
digest fat but it is produced in the pancreas. The yellow
puddles are called chyme, it is food that is not
completely digested that passes into the duodenum. In
the stomach digestion takes place, digestion is a
process by which the body changes food so it can be
used as energy. Protease is a enzyme that helps digest
proteins. Come on lets go into the duodenum! But first
we have to pass through the pyloric sphincter valve
because that valve connects the stomach to the
duodenum. The liver is connected to the duodenum. The
liver is a large, lobed organ that produces bile.

Here we are in
the duodenum.
This is the
beginning of the
small intestine
where most
chemical
digestion takes
place. The
yellow tube is
the pancreas
which produces
enzymes that
help digest.

Here we are in the small
intestine. It is a long
coiled tube in which food
is digested and
absorbed. In the small
intestine there are villi,
they are finger like
structures that cover the
inner wall of the small
intestine.
