This is kind of a sad poem that I wrote about two kids that went to my school and they took their lives and nobody could of helped them because they did not know. In the poem I wrote about how I wish I could of helped and how everyone around them is feeling. I used the poetry devices called repetition and personification. I used repetition when I keep saying I.

I am warned of the news
I wonder what I could of done to help
I hear rumors about what really happened
I see people are speechless, cry and ignore the fact
I want to know why they would take their life
I am speechless
I pretend it is all just a dream
I feel bad for the families that went through this
I worry that they won't be okay
I cry cause I will never be able to talk to them again
I am in disbelief
I understand what it's like
I say I am here for them
I dream about life
I try to forget
I hope they are better now
I am just a 16 year old trying to help

This poem I wrote about all the things I love, try to be and what I am. I explain all of the things I enjoy that start with the letter c. I also share what I feel and what I try to give to everyone. I really like this poem and it is one of my favorites that I wrote. The poetry devices i used were repetition and point of view. I used the device when I said my three things I like the most that start with c.

Me Being Me
Caleb,
Funny, sarcastic, loud, outgoing
Son of Sharon and Steve
Lover of chocolate milk, candy, and cows
Who feels bored at home, blessed for what I have, and loved
Who needs good grades, friends and family
Who gives hard work, kindness and love
Who fears bears, grasshoppers, and wasps
Would like to see Hawaii, Germany, and Paris
Resident of the Cox family

This poem was the first on that I wrote. I think its my least favorite one in my anthology because I felt like I could do better. I did use a lot of poetry devices in this one including, personification, imagery, and metaphor. This is when I was just learning about poetry but I hope you like it. I used Imagery when I said the fire released smoke.

The light from the suns rays go and hide behind the mountain
The sky becomes gray the moon is soon to rise
I knew it was time so I fingered out some wood
As the night came in it got cold
I started the fire and the wood begin to burn
When the fire started cracking I knew it was not gonna go out
The fire released the smoke
As I put a another piece of wood on it started hissing
The fire was getting so bright
And then it burned out quietly
Fire
This poem means the most to me. I wrote it about my sister being born. And how I was so excited to be her big brother. I could remember it so well when she came home. The devices I used in this poem were imagery and repetition. I used repetition when I kept saying May 5th 2004.

My Only Sibling
On May,5th 2004
It was May,5th 2004
My best friend was born
On May, 5th 2004
I was at home waiting
On May,5th 2004
To see your little face
On May,5th 2004
Standing by the door anxiously
On May,5th 2004
Finally hearing the footsteps walking up
On May,5th 2004
The feeling of being a big brother tickled my stomach
On May,5th 2004
Doorbell sang “ The time has come, the time has come”
On May,5th 2004
Tears of happiness ran down my face like the rain coming down from the sky
On May,5th 2004
That’s when I knew we were going to best friends
On May,5th 2004
Imitation of Federico Garcia Lorca’s style in his poem “Llanto por Ignacio Sanchez Mejias
I wrote this poem about what I love doing. And that is being sarcastic. In this poem I talk about all the times when I become sarcastic and who I am sarcastic too. This is a very funny poem and I really liked writing it. The devices I used are metaphor and imagery. I used these devices when I talked about all the different ways when to be sarcastic.
When I'm Sarcastic
Sarcastic: [sar-cas-tic], adverb, Sarcastically., marked by or given to using irony in order to mock or convey contempt."sarcastic comments on their failures":
When someone tells me something obvious;
When I have to do something I don't want to do,
Your mom jokes;
When a teacher says something that everyone knows already,
When I don't know an answer and I try to play it cool so I don't get made fun of,
When your friend makes fun of you and you can't come back with a good come back,
When I am mad,
After a continuous day of school
When someone wakes me up
If someone is singing that sounds really bad
When my stomach screams feed me
If i'm in a fight with a significant other
When I am trying to sleep and someone is loud then ask me if i'm trying to sleep

I made up this poem up about a guy that could not tie his tie. I came up with this idea because I seem to have trouble with my tie at every formal event I go to. The devices I used are alliteration and metaphor. I used the devices when I talked about the guy.
The Guy Who Could Not Tie His Tie
There happened to be a guy.
That needed to tie his tie.
Was going to apply.
To a place nearby.
But decided to go get some pie.
