I Am Poem
We need change
I am a believer in equality
I wonder what makes people so different
I hear racial slurs
I see police brutality
I want skin color to mean nothing
I am expecting change
I pretend people are treated the same
I feel everyone has a say
I worry the world won’t change
I cry in sympathy for others
I am in unspeakable discomposure
I understand people have their own views
I say “It should end”
I dream of everyone being seen as the same
I try tediously to explain
I hope everyone realizes
I am an anti-racist
My Response
I wrote this poem about anti-racism because it is an important topic to me. I decided to involve main components of what racism is and what it involves. In my poem I put my views and changes I hope to see. This poem speaks to me and it came straight from me, in my words. I used the background photo due to my love for rainbows and since this poem was about my opinions and views, I decided to use a rainbow background as another touch of myself.

Bio Poem
My Response
This poem reminded me of an "all about me", which what it basically is. I put in my top favorite things to do and my favorite things in general. I put in details on myself, along with my views on myself and the world. I added in things that make me happy, and smile. I used the background photo due to me loving rainbows and thinking the hearts were cute.
Re-Creation Poem
The house completely covered in snow
Burning yellow porch light to make my face bright
Knocking to let the dog know someones arrived
Cold outside, warm inside
My gloves and jacket come off
My breath is no longer visible
I start to secretly smile
We sit as we speak
Hear the oven start to beep
I have been waiting for this meal all week
Highlighted words are from Gary Soto’s poem “Oranges”
My Response
The theme of this poem was to use words of the five senses. The words I chose covered all senses so it would be easier to make a poem out of the chosen words. I wrote my poem about a house in the snow and a spouse coming home for a meal made by the other partner. This poem is short yet gets to the point quickly of what the poem is about.
At six thirty-five in the morning
It was exactly six thirty-five
Peeking over the mountains
At six thirty-five in the morning
Shining big, bright
At six thirty-five in the morning
Warm like morning coffee
At six thirty-five in the morning
Lorca Imitation Poem
At six thirty-five in the morning
Touching everything it sees
At six thirty-five in the morning
Waking everything in sight
At six thirty-five in the morning
A reminder to start the day
At six thirty-five in the morning
The roosters “cock-a-doodle-doo”
At six thirty-five in the morning
Traffic starts to get busy
At six thirty-five in the morning
The sun rises
At six thirty-five in the morning
My Response
I had chosen to write my Lorca Imitation Poem on the sunrise because it is the most pure, naturistic scene. The sunrise is a beautiful thing that happens every day, and this was important within my poem. It is emphasized just how beautiful the sunrise is. I used key words to make the sun sound warm and pure which was a key part in my poem.
Definition Poem
“Makes my Day”
Upsetting: (uhp-set-ing), adjective
Causing unhappiness, disappointment, or worry
When I wake up cuddling with my dog
The realization of time; no breakfast
My eyelids fighting me
Rapidly rushing, running to the car
The drive to school; lasts hours
I receive piling papers
I try to sustain schoolwork
When my day ends and I can’t take a nap
My Response
The title of my poem is supposed to be humorous because my chosen word was upsetting yet my title is that it makes my day. It's sarcastic and funny to me. My poem is about different things that make me upset. For example, waking up cuddling with my dog, this is upsetting because I don't want to wake her up or move her.
Limerick Poem
Nature’s the best
Plants and trees bring life to you and me
Saying bye to the bees ruined me
I need to return
It started to burn
The fresh air and the cool breeze really suited me
My Response
I wrote my poem like this because naturistic words can for the most part be easy to rhyme with each other. I used rhyme because it is one of the easiest poetic devices. I used this photo as my background because my poem is about nature so I used a forest scene as my background.
