Marlee was a quiet girl who was afraid of hights...she was on a high-dive with Sally, a girl who´s quite rude at times but shes stilll friends with her and she was pushing her to jump off,But marlee was too scared to death and climed down and went home.

She went to school the next day and ran into a new girl named Liz she was talking to Sally and Nora when she walked into class. Sally and Nora are quite hurbis but they seem quite jealous of Liz.

They became good friends quickly dispite their diffrences,they hung out all the time.Liz try´d to get Marlee to talk more,they were best friends.But little did Marlee know Liz had a secret.

One day Liz didn´t show up to school and they had a presentation,Marlee was getting worried.Then the teacher pulled her into the hall and told her Liz wont be attending school for the rest of the year.

Marlee was worried and wondered why she couldn´t come to school,but that wasn´t gonna stop her from doing the presentation.She did the whole thing even Liz´s parts.

At lunch the same day Sally told everyone she saw Liz in the negros side of town holding hands with a nergo boy at the church.Marlee was really confused,and it didn´t help that people were making repugnant comments. She even heard her crush JT say ¨I can´t believe we´ve had a nigger going to our school¨. Marlee was in exasperation for him saying that about her friend.

Marlee knew she had to go find her friend,so she went to go find her.She looked everywhere but couldn´t find her,so she left a note at her church saying to meet her by the lions at the zoo.

Marlee waited their a couple of days till finally one day she showed up.Liz gave her a magic square book because she liked math and was good at it. One of the squares had Liz´s number in it.They agreed to begin meeting at a more hidden place,the rock crusher.I know it sounds bad a white girl, and a negro girl meeing up.

Marlee and liz met there every tuesday after that.On one of those tuesdays Liz asked Marlee to help her get her mind off school.Marlee said if Liz would hunt for crawdads, Marlee would do something she was deathly afraid of.
