"How Does The Role Of Parenting Influence The Socialization Of Our Society's Next Generations?"
Interview with: Subject A
Interviewer: Jo Neale

Interviewee: Subject A
Date: January 3rd 2019
Interviewer: Jo Neale

Interviewee:
(Voice Distorted for confidentiality)
Hello there! -Robot voice replies-
Interviewer: Hello, My name is Jo. Today I am with subject A, whom their identity has been withheld for autonomy.

Interviewee:
Yes, I have 3 kids, and my oldest is 13 years old. (Subject A smiles)
Interviewer:
So, Subject A, Do you have children?

Interviewee: Uhhh, (short pause) I think parents expectations are revolved around their kids and their ability to learn. (short pause, looks away from interviewer, before looking back.) Children are going to make mistakes, Thats the point of growing up, you know? to learn from their mistakes in order to grow and become a respectful individual.
Interviewer: What is your idea of parent expectations?

Interviewee: (short pause) I think that's where the expectations of our children are rooted from. (looks at floor and clears throat before stating)
Of course different parents have different values and expectations for their children; but, i think that they are all rooted to the same tree, in a sense, they all revolve around shaping their children into members of society.
Interviewer: What is your idea of parent expectations?

Interviewee: (hesitant pause) I think that children are apart of our society; and parents do not want to be embarrassed by their own children when in public. I think this has a big role on the idea of parental expectations and what it means to be a kid in today's world.
So i'm not sure if that answers the question or not? (Confused facial expression, with a slight laugh)
Interviewer: So, is it fair to make the suggestion that you agree with our societies expectations of our youth?

Interviewee: (Thoughtful pause) Does this mean when i'm at work as well or just for leisure?
Interviewer: no, that's perfect thank you.
I would like to switch the subject, How many hours do you spend online in a day?

Interviewee: (Secondary Thoughtful pause)
i would say anywhere from 2 hours - 12 hours depending if i'm online for work, or if i'm enjoying my day off at my house.
Interviewer: Total hours in a day that you spend on the internet, including work, yes.

Interviewee: Well, all my kids are under 16 years of age.
I kinda have a more balanced set of expectations when it comes to my children and their use of technology; like for instance I wont allow them to take their electronics to bed. (smiles) Knowing my kids they will stay up
all night watching Youtube videos. (giggles, and looks down at the floor)
Interviewer: so... you can spend anywhere from 2-12 hours online. how many hours do you think your children spend online?

Interviewee: Yes, I think its very important to establish that boundary with you children.
Interviewer: So you like to limit the amount of technology used in your home?

Interviewee: Oh, This is a loaded question. (smiles, and looks around the room)
Uhhh. Okay (Bites lip while lost in thought) I think adults.. I mean parents, should have a right to discipline their child within certain limits. I do agree with old childhood discipline techniques like spankings, as this if done correctly, establishes respect and dominance. A role of power, for you're off spring to follow behind.
Interviewer: Subject A, Can you tell me your stance on child discipline?

Interviewee: I agree with the idea of taking away their electronics. This can (pause), err, will reinforce the power in the relationship, while also stating that the rules have to be followed or else they will have consequences. very important i think...
Interviewer: Final question of the night.
Some parents use Negative parenting methods like taking away their child's technologies to try and alter behavior.
How does this correspond with your parenting ideals?

Interviewer: Subject A, Those are all the prepared questions i have for you today. Just for a recap.
I understand you agree with the ideals of children discipline and that you are big into raising your children to be members of society, not just online.
Interviewee:
I want my children to feel comfortable in their society around them. The first step to this is making sure your children can withhold the expectations of being in public.

Interviewer: Thank you subject A for your time today, as promised this interview will remain confidential and is/ will only be used for academic purposes like the waiver you signed has stated. Thank you for participating in my school interview.
Interviewee:
Thank you for having me, yes do not worry, I understand the terms i have signed for when disclosing this interview with you. (smiles)
