Zoey's Day in the Juniper Classroom
by Shayla Martin

Zoey was eager to get to school. She wanted to see her friends as well as her teachers. Zoey was excited to play in the dramatic play area, talk about her favorite book Tiki Tiki Tembo, and practice her counting. Zoey got in the car with her mom and went to school.

Zoey got to her classroom and noticed that the sign in board had a question on it. The question said, "which word rhymes with dog...hat, frog, or flower." Zoey thought for a moment and said, "I know it's frog! Dog....frog!" Her mom told her that she was right. Zoey's mom said good bye and left to go to work. Zoey then began playing with her friend Avery.

Zoey then turned to Avery and said, "Avery! It's time for snack! I know that after I come in for school, we always have snack! Zoey and Avery asked their teacher, Ms. Martin what they were having for snack. She replied, "cheese and apples."

After snack, Ms. Martin called the children to come for large group. She explained to the children that they would be doing a size sort for large group. They would have to sort out animals that were small, medium, and large. It was Zoey's turn, she got the animals and lined them up in order from the smallest to the largest animals. Zoey said the spider was the smallest, next the turtle, and the largest was the lion.

After the children were done with large group, Ms. Martin asked the children to go to their cubby, get out the jacket, and sit on the rug to go outside to play. Zoey walked over to her cubby, got out her jacket and put it on, and went to the rug and sat and waited to go outside. She was able to follow the directions of the teacher. Ms. Martin asked Zoey where she wanted to go to play outside and Zoey responded, "I want to go play in the block area."

While Zoey was outside, she noticed that her friend Avery had fallen while running to the block area. He scraped his knee. Zoey ran over to her teacher and said, "Ms. Martin, Avery fell. I think he needs a band aid. He is really sad that he fell. He is crying. Ms. Martin went over to Avery and gave him a band aid. She said, "thank you Zoey for noticing that your friend was hurt. You could really see he wasn't feeling well."

The children went back inside. Zoey decided that for free time she wanted to play in the dramatic play area. She wanted to play mommy and daddy with her other friends. She said, "I'm going to pretend that I'm the mommy. I'm not really a mommy, but in the game I am." She also said, "Noah is going to be the dad and Nola is the baby." The children continued on playing until it was lunch time. The children ate and then got ready for nap. After nap the children woke up, they ate snack and Zoey asked her teacher to read the book Tiki Tiki Tembo.
