Traditional games bring us happiness!
This e book is about traditional games that are played all over the world by children. All the partners in the project worked on the book collaboratively together with their students. Students were active in all the phases of the preparation process. They searched the games , wrote the texts, drew the pictures under the guidance of their teachers.
Thank you so much dear students and respective teachers who have great contributions to our collaborative work, "Traditional Games".

Fivestones is a traditional children's game played the world over. Its rules vary from country to country and place to place. The game is also known by a variety of names including Jackstones, Chuckstones, Dibs, Dabs, Fivestones, Otadama, Tally and Knucklebones.
You’ll need at least 2 players, a flat surface to play on, and a set of five small stones.
How to play: Complete the 8 steps. If a player drops a stone, he forfeits his turn. When his opponent drops a stone, the player can pick up at the step he didn’t complete, starting from the beginning of that step. The object of the game is to complete a series of moves without dropping any of the stones.

THE HISTORY: The Italian "paternity" is attributed to Aldo Pasetti, towards the end of the 1950s. In America there was a similar game, called "Scrabble", and in fact a dispute arose between Pasetti and the founders of the US game, who accused our compatriot of plagiarism. The international lawsuit proved Pasetti's innocence

The players proceed the number of spaces indicated by the roll of a die. A marker that lands on a space "at the foot" of a ladder is moved to the box at the top of the ladder; a token that arrives in a space with a snake's mouth "backs" to its tail.
A player who rolls a 6 is entitled to play again. Whoever gets to the last square of the route first wins.

Dodgeball is a traditional street game which is played by children. This game is played by at least three children. If the children want to play with teams, at least four children are necessary. That's why, player choosing is very important before starting the game.
The main purpose of the game is to eliminate the players of the teams by hitting them by the ball. While one team is trying to throw and hit the other team's players, the other team's players try to run off and not to be hitted. The team which can succeed to hit all of its opponents first is accepted the winner team.

Blind man's buff
This game was very popular in the Victorian era, when it was often called 'Hoodwink Blind' or 'Blind Man's Buffet’. One player is the ‘blind man’ and is therefore blindfolded. The group spin that player around for a set number of rotations — not many are needed to disorientate, start with five. The other players then disperse and the blind man has to catch them. The other players don’t have to hide; they can be as close to the blind man as they like. They can tap them and confuse them into thinking there’s someone next to them to catch. Kids love teasing the blind man, but if they get overconfident they may get caught.

Once the blind man puts their hands on one of the other players to ‘catch’ them, that player now becomes the blind man and the game starts over. In this game, kids will learn to use their senses other than sight, by trying to catch the other players while blindfolded. For this reason, it is actually better played in a smaller space that’s clear of hazards, so that the ‘blind man’ doesn’t trip and hurt themselves.

Skittles is a traditional outdoor game in Turkey. It is quite old and has many variations in Europe. It is ancestor of modern bowling. But we will tell the Turkish version. It is a team game. At least four players are needed. In Turkish, it is called “Çelik çomak”, Çelik (steel) is the short stick and Çomak (club) is the long one.
First, teams are selected and then starting team is decided by Rock Paper Scissors or in any way teams agree on. The game is played with two sticks. Steel is about 30 cm long and club is 70-80 cm.
MEHMET REŞİT AKSU

How to play
1. The short stick, steel, is put on two stones.
2. With the club, one player from team A, throws it away. The other team (B) try to catch the steel in air.
3.If they can catch it, they have 10 points.
4. If not, club is put on the stones and team B player tries to hit it with the steel.
5. If it hits, team B gets 5 points. If not, team A player throws away the steel by hitting it in the air. The player does that three times.
6. Team B try to hit the club again. If they do, they have 5 points. If not, team B jump the space between the short and the long sticks. Team B gets 5 points and it’s their turn. If not, other team gains the points, and the game goes on.
7. The first team to reach the 50poits is the winner.
MELİKE DOLAR
Hide and seek is one of the most popular childrens games worldwide. In this game players choose one of their friends as "the it" (the seeker). The seeker closes his/her eyes and counts to for example 20 at the homebase (a wall, atree etc.). Other players hide somewhere. When the seeker ends counting he/she says "Ready or not here I come!" Then, starts to look for his/her friends. If a player touches the base and says "free", he/she is safe. If the seeker finds a player first, he/she will be the seeker on the next turn. The game goes on like this. Children can play it for long hours. They are not bored because it is very enjoyable.
