Superlative yapı, Türkçe’deki "en" ifadesinin karşılığıdır. Sıfatlara ''en'' ifadesini kazandırabilmek için  ise Sıfatların hece sayılarına bakmamız gerekir. Sıfatları böylece kısa ya da uzun sıfatlar olarak niteleyebiliriz.

Örneğin; Short, Big, Fat, Ugly, Young

gibi sıfatlar tek hecelidir bu nedenle:

               Young (genç)

 En genç demek istediğimizde

           The Youngest

                The ....-est ekini getiririz

Age:9

Cem?

Age:2

Baby?

Ali is a young boy

Age: 12

Cem is younger than Ali

The Baby is the youngest boy in the classroom.

UNUTMA !

Superlative form (sıfatların EN hali); comparative form (Sıfatlara daha anlamını içeren yapısı)'dır.

Tek heceli (kısa sıfatlarda) 'en' anlamı getirmek için  'the... -est'  takısı gelir. 

Daha anlamı getirmek istersen ise sıfatın sonuna  'er' ve kıyaslama eki olan 'than' getirilir.

              young - younger -  the youngest

               tall  -   taller   - the tallest

Birden fazla heceli yani uzun sıfatlar da peki ne yapmalıyız? Örneğin;

                Beautiful (güzel)

En güzel demek istiyoruz 

              The most beautiful           

 Sıfatın başına 'the most' ekini getiririz 

Susan is a beautiful girl

   Jane? 

Susan is a beautiful girl

Jane is more beautiful than Susan

Alice?

Alice is the most beautiful girl on the stage.

Birden fazla heceli (uzun sıfatlarda) en anlamı getirmek için sıfatın başına' the most' takısı gelir.

  daha anlamı getirmek istersen ise sıfatın başına  'more' eki  getirilir.

      beautiful - more beautiful-  the most beautiful

      crowded  - more crowded - the most crowded

Son olarak bilmeniz gereken, aşağıdaki sıfatlara 'en' anlamı kazandırmak istiyorsak

            the..-est ya da ' the most ' eklerini getiremeyiz

Çünkü bu sıfatlara 'irregular adjectives' diyoruz. Bu sıfatların Superlative halleri aşağıdaki gibidir.

   *Good        -Better -            The Best  

    * Bad         - Worse-            The Worst

   *Little         - Less -             The least    

    *Many        - More-             The Most

    *Far   - Farther/Further - The Farthest/ The Furthest
