Once upon a time there was a stag called Samuel. One day, he set off in search of high grass. Soon he came to a creek. Across the creek there was a green meadow, where beautiful flowers grew. He longed to eat the finest grass, even if his mother told him a big, fierce bear lived in that forest. Little Sam was not frightened of other beasts as he had not encountered enemies before.

He was very happy that everything around.
He was gamboling and rolling with no worries, like any young.
Suddenly, when he did not expect, up popped the big bear!
The bear split his sides with laughter.

The deer young , beeng so little, hid in the hollow of a large log. Then he became brave and answered the bear from there, coughing to lower his male voice:

He started to believe he was the smartest stag on earth and so he bragged about his bravery.
Some called him „Sam the Brave”, others „Sam the Great”, but his nickname eventually was „Sam, the Smart Stag” and so it remained. All agreed.
Furious, being fooled by such a little creature, the bear kicked all the half-rotten logs around him. Unfortunately, one of them was full of hundreds of bees, anxious to bite the insensitive bear. He struggled, beating the air with his paws and could hardly escape the ordeal.

The frisky stag had taken a liking for the grass and decided to go to the meadow again, not being troubled by anything. No one of his folks knew he returned to the dangerous place.
Sam forgot about the dangers when he smell in the air the green grass and varicolored flowers. Behind on old branchy tree, the bear was waiting for the right moment. He knew the stag would go to the water, being thirsty after his square lunch.

„Let him come close enough and I’ll only have to get him in the blink of an eye”.
That was the plan.
But get this: the stag was smart. This is what he did after eating. He jumped on a piece of wood that served as a bridge over the creek. He sat carelessly on the opposite edge of the so-called brige, across the creek, and he throught he had a day to remember.
„Grrr, grrr, grrr!!”
All of a sudden, the bear came out from behind that tree and made at the stag like mad, with his strong paws up in the air.

Being so heavy and thumping so hard on the piece of wood, it cracked at its middle and the poor bear fell down like a sack of potatoes.
