I Am Poem: Guardian of The Flame
I am a guardian of the flame, a shadow in the smoke.
I wonder what lies beyond the next sire's cry.
I hear the crackle of burning wood, a hungry beast devouring homes.
I see the fear in frightened eyes, a reflection of the heat.
I want to bring calm to chaos, a steady hand in the storm.
I am a beacon of hope when darkness descends.
I pretend the weight of the gear doesn't crush, and that the heat doesn't sear.
I feel the adrenaline surge, a fierce, quickening pulse.
I worry about the unseen dangers, the lingering embers.
I cry for the losses, the memories turned to ash.
I am a shield against destruction, a force of rescue.
I understand the language of urgency, the silent plea for help.
I say "We're here," a promise whispered through the haze
I dream of returning home. The smell of smoke replaced by supper.
I try to be brave, a wall against the fire's advance.
I hope to make a difference, to save a life, to preserve a dream.
I am a firefighter, standing strong against the inferno.
I Am Poem: Guardian of the Flame
The reason I wrote this poem from the perspective of a firefighter is that when I am out of high school, that is what I am going to be. I want to be able to help others and become something my parents can be proud of. I did some research to make it more realistic and accurate, to make it as good as I possibly could. I used figurative language, such as metaphors, to describe what firefighters do and who they are, and to describe things such as fire. As I'm sure you know what it is firefighters do, but just to refresh your mind, they risk their lives to save others by going into burning buildings, buildings falling apart, etc.
Bio Poem: Dylan Thompson
I wrote this poem about myself, I described who I am and what I am like. I list off some things that I do or am like and give just a brief background about myself. I go over some things, such as fears and places I want to go. I describe some traits of my personality so people know what to expect, and write about some things I do, etc. I wrote it the way I did so people could know some things about me and learn a little bit more about who I am.
Bio Poem: Dylan Thompson
Dylan
Nice, funny, hard-working, smart
Son of Robyn and Jeremy
Lover of my family, friends, and pets
Who feels happy when achieving something, sad when losing something, and mad when something doesn't go my way
Who needs sleep, food, and water
Who gives water, food, and help when needed
Who fears heights, drowning, and flying
Who would like to see the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, and the Egyptian Pyramids

Re-Creation Poem: Nature's Embrace
The fire danced, a vibrant, bright display,
As ancient trees in silence walked away.
A chilling cold began to seep and grow,
The world held its breath, hushed and soft and low.
A yellow sun, obscured by fog so deep,
Heard cracking branches where the shadows sleep.
A serpent's hiss, a whisper in the night,
Beneath the gleam of pale and ghostly frost, a silent rite.
The dawn arrives, a bright and hopeful sign,
Nature's true essence is perfectly divine.
Selected Words are from Gary Soto's poem "Oranges."
Re-Creation Poem: Nature's Embrace
I wrote my re-creation poem about nature. I've always liked nature, and nature to me always seems like it could be used to make good poems, so I tried my best while using nature as the theme. I used metaphors to describe parts of nature and what they are like. I wrote the poem in a more wintery setting to explain what it is to be in the wild while it is cold and foggy. I hope this shows what it is like to be out in the wild. I also used certain words such as "Frost" from Gary Soto's poem "Oranges" which influenced the theme of a cold and foggy winter.
Stylistic Imitation Poem:
That Morning in Hawaii
The theme of my poem is about the attack on Pearl Harbor. I use the phrase "the sun began to climb," which is personification, to emphasize how it was only just the beginning of the day in the morning when the attack happened. I try to use the poem to tell people how sad and tragic that day was and how sudden it all happened. I hope people realize how tragic this day truly was. This was a sad day in U.S. history and should be remembered by everybody.
Stylistic Imitaion Poem:
That Morning in Hawaii
At seven fifty-five in the morning.
At seven fifty-five, the sun began to climb,
At seven fifty-five in the morning.
A peaceful morning, untouched by any crime.
At seven fifty-five in the morning.
But at seven fifty-five, the skies began to roar,
At seven fifty-five in the morning.
A sudden fury, knocking at the shore.
At seven fifty-five in the morning.
The planes descended, a swarm of metal dread,
At seven fifty-five in the morning.
At seven fifty-five, the battleships did bleed.
At seven fifty-five in the morning.
The smoke ascended, a shroud of bitter gray,
At seven fifty-five in the morning.
The sirens wailed, to mark a tragic day.
At seven fifty-five in the morning.
The echoes linger, a constant, heavy sound,
At seven fifty-five in the morning
Of fury unleashed, on hallowed ground.
Imitation of Federico Garcia Lorca's style in his poem "Llanto por Ignacio Sanchez Mejias."
Definition Poem: Nature's Whispers and Roars
Nature is the earth’s old, whispered secret,
A canvas splashed with green and the sky’s deep blue.
It’s the wind’s gentle sigh, a quiet threat,
And sunlight’s golden tears that filter through.
It’s the fierce roar of thunder, a drumbeat grand,
The tiny ant that toils with all its might.
A mother’s lullaby across the land,
Or shadows dancing in the pale moonlight.
It’s life’s own breath, a constant, flowing stream,
A wild, untamed, and ever-present dream
Definition Poem: Nature's Whispers and Roars
I wrote this poem using the theme of nature. I wrote it about nature to explain how truly peaceful and beautiful it can be. I use the phrase "A mother’s lullaby across the land" as personification to explain how a mother nature's sounds can be peaceful and soothing to the human ear. I have always liked nature and love being outside in the middle of nowhere just in nature. I hope this shows people how peaceful and nice nature can be.
Limerick Poem: The Willow's Ancient Song
I wrote this poem about a tree. I wrote about a tree because I like nature and trees are everywhere in nature. I used figurative language such as a simile when I said "Its branches reached out like arms in pale moonlight". I used this to tell people how the tree looks with its branches reaching out. I hope this encourages people to go outside into the nature.
