You must be new to MineCraft! Whether you're playing on your PC, Mac, Xbox, tablet, or phone, the basics of MineCraft will continue to stay the same (for the most part). Today, we will be reviewing the essentials to getting a good start in the game! Starting with a brief intro to the game, then getting resources, mining, mobs, and many other things!

In MineCraft, your number one goal is to mine and gather resources to craft items and weapons that will help you defeat the three bosses in the game. The bosses are explained in detail at the very end of the book. Stay tuned!

You can also play mini games on multiplayer servers, or build and experiment in Creative Mode with unlimited blocks and items.

Survival Mode

In Survival Mode, you spawn in a randomly generated world. Straight of the bat, you need to start looking for trees and gather wood. You do this by simply punching the tree (clicking it). Craft a Crafting Bench, which is made from 4 wooden planks. You can turn wood logs into wooden planks by simply placing them on the crafting section of your inventory (For PC). Afterwards, craft a wooden pickaxe and find a cave nearby. Mine the stone and upgrade to a stone pickaxe. The recipes for all these tools can be viewed using the crafting guide. With the rest of your stone, craft a furnace. In order to craft any of these items, click on your crafting bench.From this point on wards, it's up to you what you want to craft. Be on the look out for iron, coal, or any other ores when mining. Also make sure to build a house and some weapons because at night, hostile mobs will spawn and try to attack you. Also, kill animals like cows and pigs to get food. Kill sheep to get wool to make a bed. Sleeping at night will stop most mobs from spawning

Creative Mode

In Creative Mode, you have access to everything in the game without having to actually mine, find, or collect them. Your inventory will hold every building block, weapon, tool, food, and even spawn eggs. If you're planning to get the game to embrace your creativity and build structures, Creative Mode is the way to go.

Now that you know the two different modes in the game, we will now focus on the biomes and realms. Minecraft has many biomes ranging from deserts, taigas, birch forests, jungles, savannas, plains, and many more. Each biome has it's own specialty. In deserts, Desert Temples are generated. These structures have traps but hold chests full of riches and rare items. Similarly, Jungles have Jungle Temples. They also have traps and hold valuable items. Birch forests are full of birch wood trees, and taigas have spruce wood and are the habitat of wolves. Each biome also has a village that is themed after it. Villages are little towns that are run by NPC's known as villagers. You can trade with them, and also loot the village's items. There are always the pro's and cons of building your house in any biome. Like mentioned before, some biomes are the home to a specif animal. Taigas have wolves, Snowy biomes have polar bears, Bamboo forests have pandas, jungles have ocelots, and beaches have sea turtles. Villages also have stray cats that you can tame.

Our next chapter, we will be talking about the Nether, which is refers to the underworld. In order to get there, you must build a portal. It's a 3 by 5 rectangle made of obsidian (obtained by pouring water over lava) and then lit by a flint and steel. Then center is not filled in, and when lit, it should glow purple. Unfortunately, I can't go too into depth because I have no pictures. Visit the Minecraft Wiki (link listed at the end of the book) to get a more in depth explanation. Please proceed to the following page to get a brief explanation of the Nether.

The Nether is technically a different realm. The world is essentially made up of netherack. The Nether is extremely dangerous because there is lava surrounding it, and fire everywhere. In the Nether, there are also Ghasts, Pigmen, Wither Skeletons, and Magma Cubes. All of these except for the Pigmen are hostile mobs that spawn in the Nether. Pigmen won't become hostile unless you hit or attack one of them. You'll most likely go to the Nether if you want glowstone, quartz, blaze rods, or Wither Skeleton heads. These are the resources that are available there. Nether Fortresses are a special structure that form in the Nether. In there, there are blaze spawners, and chests with valuables.

Another realm in Minecraft is the End. In order to get there, you must use Eyes of Ender (crafted with Ender Pearls that are obtained from Endermen) to find the Stronghold. Strongholds are underground structures that hold the portal to the End. You'll need Eyes of Ender to activate the portal. In the End, you'll be able to fight the Ender Dragon (later explained). There is also the End City, but we're not going to go into depth about that. It's basically a city filled with Shulkers (hostile mobs). In there, you'll get Elytra. It's basically a pair of wings that allow you to fly.
