INTRODUCTION
4 TYPES OF MAIN DRUGS.
- Depressant
- Stimulant

A) WHAT HAVE I LEARNT IN THIS TOPIC
CHARACTERISTIC AND EFFECTS OF DRUGS
i) Depressant Drug
- Substance that reduce arousal and stimulation.
- It makes you feel relaxed, chilled out, mellow, releases stress, calming, slowdown the response to stimuli and possible paradoxical effects such as anxiety, nightmares and aggression.
- It also makes you feeling the euphoria. (The feeling of happy but in calmer version.)
- It does not necessarily make people feel depressed.
- It affect the central nervous system.
- slowing down the messages between the brain and the body.
- affect the concentration and coordination.
- slow down the person's ability to respond to unexpected situation.
Effect in smaller dose ;
- cause a person to feel more relaxed and less inhibited.
Effect in higher dose ;
- It caused drowsiness, vomiting, unconsciousness and death.
ii) Stimulant Drug
- Class of drug that speed up the messages between the brain and the body.
- It makes you feel energetic, alert, talkative, active, very excited, increase metabolism rate, more awake and confident.
In large doses;
- Stimulant drugs can cause over-stimulation, anxiety, panic, seizures, headaches, stomach cramps, aggression and paranoia.
Therefore, long-term use of stimulant drug can be very dangerous that will cause a number of adverse effect, including addiction and death at high doses.
iii) Opiates Drug
- Drugs that acts on opioid receptors in the brain, and any natural or synthetic drugs that are derived from or related to the 'Opium Poppy'
- Subsets of opioids, which are naturally derived from the opium poppy plant.
- can be used in various ways such as found in a tablet form and often swallowed based on medication.
- It makes you feel a rush of pleasure, in a dreamy state, drowsy, releases pain and anxiety, euphoria, pain relief, sweating, constipation and sleepy.
- It acts on the nervous system to relieve pain of a person.
- It is similar to depressant drug but it is mostly for releasing pain.
- They are very dangerous at high doses. They are addictive.
iv) Hallucinogen Drugs
- is a diverse group of drug that alter the person's awareness of their surroundings as well as their own thoughts and feelings.
- Hallucinogen and dissociactive drugs are used for social and recreational use.
- Hallucinogens make you feel detached from your surroundings, mood swings, altered sense of space and time, hallucinations, illusions and distortions of reality, feelings of insight, mystical or religious experiences, alter the reality and death.
- People who are taking hallucinogen drugs are mostly dealing with stress or to try to achieve an enlighten state of mind.
- Sometimes, to escape life's troubles or to relieve boredom.
- Example : A person is biting someone's head because it looks like an apple, and he or she is till biting the head because their reality has been altered.
