from Wolf Call

Prologue

A wolf was playing by a creek when she suddenly had a feeling that she was being watched. She noticed a big gray wolf watching them from the trees.

"Help!" screamed the wolf. She was a lone wolf, and hadn't been with her own kind for years.

"Please help us," said the other wolf. "Legend tells us that a white wolf like you will save our pack from the evil hunters who rule this forest."

"Meet me at this log at midnight." And with that, that wolf whipped around and plunged back into the forest, leaving the other behind.

THE STORY

The white wolf, Rose, looked out of the "window" of her den, which was actually just a few sticks bent next to each other to resemble 
a window. 

Rose suddenly saw the wolf by a log. She noticed that the other wolf looked... sad. She decided to walk out, and if the wolf showed any signs it wanted to attack, then she would run away as fast as she could. Or she could fight.

Rose walked quietly out of her den and down to the forest, looking around fearfully. She walked toward the wolf. "Come on." The wolf stepped forward. It began to run, Rose attempting to follow. Twisted tree roots wove across the ground. With a scream, Rose tripped and fell on her face onto the ground.

The wolf turned back. "Come on," it said. Rose got to her feet and began to walk. This time she was more careful. Before she knew it, the two wolves reached a clearing. There was a short wooden fence.

Rose was scared. Suddenly one hundred twenty wolves jumped from the trees.

Suddenly magic sparkles shot from her paws. Rose yelped. Stars whirled everywhere.

Rose looked at the other wolves. "I think you have superpowers," one of them said. 

"I don't want super powers," Rose cried. The wolf shook his head. "Well, you have them now, whether you want them or not," he said bluntly. Rose nervously looked around.

"Lately we've seen many hunters around here," said the wolf sadly. "They keep trying to shoot us for our pelts."  

"But we have also heard of a special island where we can be safe. Legend tells us that there are fruit trees and no humans

to hurt us."

"By the way," asked Rose to the wolf, "what is your name?"

The wolf grinned, baring her white teeth. "My name is TwistedStalk." 

TwistedStalk walked to an old tree stump. She dug around for a bit. After a few seconds, she came back with some old paper in her mouth. A black wolf walked up next to her. TwistedStalk dropped the old paper onto the ground. "That is Dark," she said. Rose nodded. 

TwistedStalk picked up the piece of paper again. 

"This piece of paper is a map leading to the island," Dark said. He brushed some dirt off of it with his front paws. Rose took a closer look. It was very old, and ripped in a few places, but you could still see the drawings on it.

"Okay, let's go to the island now," said Dark. So he howled and all the wolves came and they began to walk. Rose walked in front since she had superpowers. Suddenly they heard a gun shooting at them. 

"Let's run!" they screamed. And so all the wolves ran super fast. "LET ME USE MY SUPER GOOD SUPER POWERS!" Rose yelled. 

So she stretched out her front paw and shot out an invisibility force-field. 

The hunters looked around, confused. "I swear I saw some wolves here," one man said. "Oh well." So they turned and walked away.
